Reading ebooks on a PDA or a PC
Attention Avid Readers! This is a page you need to read before you leave home. I am a read-a-holic and I have sometimes found it difficult to find books in English to satisfy my appetite. Living in Thailand, this is not a problem for me, but I cannot guarantee that it won't be a problem at my next destination or wherever it is that you want to go! Last year my good friend and reading buddy Junie came to visit me in Thailand and put me onto ebooks. I'd like to share what I've learned on the subject over the last year with you. An ebook is an electronic book and can come in several formats. One format is .pdf which stands for portable document format. These files are great if you are going to either print them or read them on your pc (you'll need the free adobe reader to view them), but ebooks in .pdf format cannot be read on the latest Pocket PCs. Another format is Microsoft Reader and this is my favourite. When I open one of these documents, it's just like reading a paperback as the book is formatted into pages and with one click I can 'turn the page'. It's also optimised for reading comfort because the pages are only as wide as can be read comfortably.
